DEVON -- A 5-year-old boy who decided to skip a friend's birthday party was sent a bill for about $25 to cover his costs, the BBC reported. Alex Nash was invited to the birthday party, held at ski lodge just before Christmas, and his parents had accepted the invitation before realizing that he was already scheduled to spend time with his grandparents that weekend. The boy skipped the party to be with his grandmother and grandfather. Soon after, a bill for around 16 pounds (roughly $25 American) was sent home with Alex by the birthday child's mother, who said Alex's non-attendance cost her money that she planned to reclaim. His parents found the invoice in a brown envelope in his schoolbag, Alex's father, Derek, told the BBC. "It was a proper invoice with full official details and even her bank details on it," Mr. Nash said. The invoice listed a "Party No Show" fee. If they did not pay, they were told, they would be taken to the small claims court, Alex's father said. It is "all but impossible" for the mother to collect the no-show fee, according to the BBC. Doing so would require a legal contract, something a child's party invitation would not likely hold up as in court, the outlet reported. "I can understand that she's upset about losing money," Mr. Nash said. "The money isn't the issue, it's the way she went about trying to get the money from me."
