SANDY, Utah (AP) -- A Utah dad foiled an attempt to kidnap his young daughter from her bed early Friday after confronting a man carrying her across the lawn. Police Sgt. Dean Carriger says the suspect entered the home through an unlocked door or window about 4:30 a.m. in Sandy, a middle-class suburb south of Salt Lake City. Police say the intruder took the sleeping girl from her bedroom, but woke up the girls' parents with noises. The girl's father went to the door and saw the man carrying his daughter, confronted him and took his daughter back. The suspect then fled. Officers say they set up a perimeter, and with the help of a police dog who bit the man, soon arrested a 46-year-old man. Carriger says the family did not know the suspect.
