McCOOK, Neb. (AP) — An Omaha woman has turned her knack for "extreme couponing" into a way to give back to her hometown of McCook.
Hollie Anderson has been hauling her deeply discounted finds to sell at large auctions in McCook since last year, passing the savings on to people in her hometown, the McCook Gazette reported .
She has held four sales in McCook's Memorial Auditorium since the summer of 2016. The last one was held last month, offering brand new items she had found at basement-bargain prices and stockpiled in her garage for weeks. She then rented a delivery truck to take the items to McCook.
She laid out more than 40 tables with laundry soaps, toiletries, school supplies, canned and dry goods and other items, passing on the savings to McCook residents. Any items not sold are donated to local charities, benefiting the McCook Pantry, Toy Box, Humane Society and a local backpack drive.
Anderson still owns a home in McCook and said she is enjoying the regular visits back to the region.
"McCook is still my home, and I probably go back way too much," she said. "I enjoy seeing all the familiar faces."
Anderson receives plenty of support from her family and friends, as well as local volunteers, who help with setting up and tearing down the events and making deliveries to local charities afterward.
Anderson hopes to coordinate a McCook auction every four months. Her next one is set for March.
