CASTALIA, Ohio (AP) — A mother goose that was badly burned by a fire outside an Ohio government building has been given a second chance at motherhood.

The News-Herald of Port Clinton (http://ohne.ws/1EEP5w7 ) reports that the Canada goose has adopted seven orphaned goslings in the past few days at a wildlife rehabilitation center in Castalia.

The staff united the goose with the goslings to see if her motherly instincts would kick in, and they did.

Her own eggs were destroyed after cigarette butts set fire to the goose and her nest at the Erie County Services Building earlier this month. Two humans put out the flames, saving the goose's life.

She was taken to a specialist who determined that she would be able to fly again and be released back into the wild.
