Downed line knocks out power to 200

SCOTT TWP. — Nearly 200 PPL customers lost power after a line was knocked down along Shaffer Road Friday morning.

Police say it appears the wind must have jostled the live wire, knocking it into the roadway just ater 11 a.m. Nearly everyone had power restored by 3 p.m.

The outage left staff and residents at Brookdale Senior Living eating lunch by the glow of emergency lighting.

At Masterlube, workers had to manually operate a garage door to allow for a pickup truck that had been parked inside to drive off.

And some lights and power outlets at the Press Enterprise were running on generators.

Meanwhile, flares had to be set up along Route 11 at the intersection of Edgar Avenue and Shaffer Road to caution drivers to the darkened traffic lights there.

A PPL outage map estimates power will be restored by 2:30 p.m.
