BRIAR CREEK — State police are asking for the public’s help identifying a woman they say tried to steal $82 worth of soda, ice cream and other foods from the grocery store in November.

The woman, wearing a blue scrub top, black leggings, and sneakers, walked into Giant Food Stores in the Briar Creek Plaza on Nov. 30 and filled a small cart with Mountain Dew, ice cream, and prepared foods. Manager Leigh Ann Weaver was at the customer service desk when she noticed the woman lingering near the produce entrance doors. None of the items in her cart were in bags, and she hadn’t been through the checkout line, Weaver knew.

As she watched, the woman nervously looked around until the entrance was free of people. That’s when she pushed her cart into the cart corral area.

Weaver quickly followed and grabbed the cart before the woman could walk outside.

“You have your items,” the woman told Weaver. “Please don’t call the cops.”

Weaver asked the woman to come back inside so she could get some information, but the woman bolted, reports say.

She ran toward the direction of Route 11, Weaver told police. Surveillance footage doesn’t show the woman arriving or leaving in a car.

Police are looking for a white female, around 5’4”, with brown hair. The hair has a tint of red, which may have been from a previous hair dye, police say. She appears to be in her 40s.

State Police can be reached at 570-387-4261.
