Peter Kendron of Berwick, a Press Enterprise reporter for 14 years, has been promoted to managing editor.
His promotion was announced Tuesday by Publisher Brandon Eyerly.
Kendron succeeds Dean Kashner, who has retired after a reporting and editing career that spanned five decades.
The managing editor is the newsroom executive who supervises the day-to-day work of reporters and photographers, prepares the daily news budget, and plans coverage of upcoming news events.
“Like his predecessor, Peter brings to this pressure-filled job a sharp mind, an even temperament, and extensive reporting, writing and editing experience,” said Editor Jim Sachetti.
Kendron, 36, joined the Press Enterprise news staff in 2001, after graduating with a degree in journalism and history from St. Bonaventure University, Olean, N.Y.
Extensive experience
As a reporter, he’s written thousands of local stories, from breaking news to features. For the past 12 years, he’s covered Bloomsburg, a beat that now passes to reporter Kristin Baver.
Kendron lives in Berwick with his wife, Erika, and children, Alana Badolato, 18; Jack Kendron, 7, and Cassie Kendron, 5.
He is the son of Kenneth and Margaret Kendron of Cheektowaga, N.Y.
He welcomes comments and tips from readers at (570) 387-1234, ext. 1305, or peter.kendron@pressenterprise.net.
Danville native
Kashner, 59, a Danville native, joined the Press Enterprise news staff in 1978 after graduating from Muhlenberg College, Allentown.
Starting as a reporter in Montour County, he advanced to chief court reporter, copy editor, editorial writer, and, in 1996, managing editor. Along the way, he earned a master’s degree in literature from Bucknell University.
He and his wife, Mary, live in Scott Township.
