HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) -- Pennsylvania's governor is giving non-essential state government workers something they may not have expected -- an extra day off this holiday season. Pennlive.com reported Wednesday the outgoing governor is making Friday a holiday and letting them leave a few hours early on Christmas Eve. The news organization says other state agencies are expected to follow suit. A state government spokesman says there will be some savings in utility costs, and notes many employees would have taken the day off anyway. Office of Administration press secretary Dan Egan says the federal government and more than a dozen states also will close down their operations on Friday.
