MIAMI (AP) — The family of man killed by a drunken driver while walking to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting say they forgive his killer.

The family told the Miami Herald (http://hrld.us/1COD1yn ) on Saturday that they forgive the Carlos Pardon who was sentenced to five years in prison on Friday.

Pardon's blood alcohol was more than four times the legal limit when he ran over Haywood Maurice Johnson in 2013.

Johnson's family said he had recently marked four years of sobriety after years of drug and alcohol abuse and was walking to his regular Alcoholic Anonymous meeting when he was struck and killed.

Pardon told the court that he was thankful for the family's forgiveness but will never be able to forgive himself for Johnson's death.
