'Beer Mile' combines competitive running and competitive chugging

If you're a runner who also likes drinking beer, there's a new competitive sport for you. Well, maybe not if you like enjoying your beer -- or running without dyspepsia. Races that combine running and beer chugging are popping up with increasing frequency in the U.S. and overseas, and last week brought us the first "Beer Mile World Chamionships." The races generally take place on a running track, and contestants have to begin each lap by chugging a beer. With only a mile to run, there's a premium on chugging ability, since valuable seconds can be lost gulping down your suds. While it might seem like college party game, the races apparently are not easy to complete for those who have not specifically trained for them. Last month, former Tour de France winner, marathoner and uberathlete Lance Armstrong dropped out of a beer mile race in Austin, Texas after completing just one lap.
