PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Philadelphia police say a motorist was reaching back into his rental car for a loaded pistol when an officer shot and killed him during an early morning traffic stop. Police say the officer shot 26-year-old Brandon Tate-Brown once in the head after pulling him over around 2:45 a.m. Monday for driving without headlights on. They say he had several prior arrests. The officer and his partner were not wounded in the incident on Frankford Avenue in the city's Mayfair section. One officer was hospitalized for observation. Police say the officer who fired the shot will be on administrative duty pending the outcome of an investigation. Police statistics show this is the 26th officer-involved shooting in Philadelphia this year. It is the fourth in which a suspect was killed.
