PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- A 13-year-old boy is accused of beating his foster mother and stealing her car before getting into an accident. WPVI-TV said the teen faces serious charges after police say he brutally beat his foster mother, Mamie Chess, inside their west Philadelphia home on Monday morning. Police said the boy beat Chess with his fists and various objects throughout the house amid an argument over him staying out too late the night before. Investigators said he then stole her Jeep but got into an accident outside the city in Tredyffrin Township. Neighbors and friends of Chess say she is a kind lady in her 70s who raised foster children for much of her life. She remains hospitalized in stable condition. The boy's name isn't being released because of his age.
