If you have kids -- or are one yourself -- a list of college intern salaries circulating on the web should have you thinking about potential career paths. Unpaid interns may have drawn the biggest headlines over the past couple years, but there are companies out there paying their interns well -- and we mean really well. Silicon Valley's tech companies, in particular, offer some eye-popping internship pay rates, according to this list, first shared by San Francisco-based tech entrepreneur Tiffany Zhong. Upstart website Quora tops the list. It pays tech interns monthly salaries as high as $8,250, plus $1,500 in housing costs. That's $9,750 a month, or $117,000 a year. Not bad for a 21-year-old student still in college. And Quora is far from an anomaly. Apple offers interns as much as $9,500 a month. Popular social site Pinterest pays tech interns $9,000 a month, or a $108,000 annual rate, according to Zhong's list.Google also pays as much as $9,000. Professional social site LinkedIn pays $7,600 a month, plus a $5,000 moving stipend. Here are a few others on her list:
  • Social-media favorite Facebook - $7,800 a month
  • Online shopping giant Amazon - $8,500 a month
  • Fitness armband maker Fitbit - $9,300 a month
  • Mobile game maker Zynga - $7,800 a month
Even the lowest pay rate on the list works out to an $84,000 annual salary, well more than most people earn at the peak of their working years. Some websites have pointed out that Zhong's list was compiled by a friend in a less-than-scientific fashion. But as Slate.com notes, the salaries match up pretty well with previous research compiled by leading employment website Glassdoor.com. Interested in seeing what people around here are earning?
