CARBONDALE (AP) -- It's part Dr. Dolittle and part Noah's Ark. Officials here are scrambling to rewrite pet ownership rules after finding 90 animals, including 72 snakes, living under one roof. Carbondale Mayor Justin Taylor tells WNEP-TV a zoning law loophole allowed the homeowner to build up the collection. Officials also found 9 cats, 2 geckos, a dog, a turtle, a rabbit and a parrot. Taylor tells the station Thursday that local laws outline parameters for pet ownership, including a ban on breeding and selling, but don't set a limit or outlaw snakes. Officials say the snakes were kept in a stack of plastic containers and appeared healthy. Still, some residents of the Scranton suburb say they're concerned about having so many snakes nearby. Indiana Jones would be, too.
