Warming shelter to open tonight in Bloom

BLOOMSBURG — AGAPE will open its warming shelter here this weekend to anyone seeking to get out of the cold weather.

Director Eileen Chapman said enough volunteers were available to staff the shelter on Friday night and right through the weekend.

It is hoped the shelter would remain open through the rest of the extreme cold season, she said.

Last year, only one or two people a night used the shelter, which is located at the AGAPE center across from the Children’s Museum and the YMCA at 19 E. Seventh St.

Chapman said a couple had inquired about the shelter on Friday so it was decided to move the opening date up.

It will open at 8 p.m. each night, and everyone who wants to use the shelter must be in by 10 p.m., she said.
