
UPDATED 3:56 p.m. - Jan. 10, 2013BLOOMSBURG -- A car started on fire Thursday, damaging siding on nearby East Eighth Street houses, after an electrical short caused flames to leap from its dashboard while its battery was charging, fire officials say.
Rodney Lenhart was using a portable battery charger to charge his niece Chyvonne Drucker's Ford Taurus when smoke and then flames started coming from the dashboard around 11:30 a.m., he said.
Firefighters quickly doused the flames, but not before intense heat melted siding on both Drucker's home at 472 E. Eighth St. and Lenhart's new trailer next door.
