HERSHEY -- In a win-or-go-home scenario, four out of five local wrestlers were able to prevail during first round consolations in the PIAA Class AA wrestling championships at the Giant Center on Tuesday afternoon.
Here's a quick rundown:
* Central Columbia's Lewis Williams earned an 8-1 decision over Central Cambria's Tom Opdenhoff.
* At 138 pounds, Bloomsburg's Cody Klinger held off Wyomissing's Angel Canela, 6-4
* Benton's Dominic Vitale (152) survived with a 6-2 win over Highlands' Nolan Wise.
* The Panthers' Sam Miller, a Bloomsburg junior at 145 pounds, was eliminated from the competition following a 3-0 to Bethlehem Catholic's Mason Angstadt.
* Warrior Run's Zack LeBarron (120 pounds) beat Berlins-Brothers Valley's Joe Swank, 7-0.
The Class AA tournament continues Friday at 9 a.m. with the quarterfinal round, followed by second round consolations at approximately 10:45. a.m.Early roundsIn earlier action, four out of five Benton wrestlers won their preliminary matches during the PIAA Class AA wrestling championships at the Giant Center in Hershey on Thursday morning.
Here's a look:Benton* Alan Diltz (106 pounds) beat Greenville freshman Michael Lineman, 12-2.
* Mike Stuart (120) topped Penns Valley's Curtis Decker, 4-1.
* Jeric Kasunic (160) blanked Bethlehem-Center's Nico Brown, 3-0.
* At 195 pounds, Logan Womelsdorf held on for a 5-2 win over North Schuylkill's Alek Hummell.
* 152-pounder Dominic Vitale fell into the consolation bracket after giving up a takedown with 15 seconds left in his match, losing 7-5 to Blairsville's Andrew Doak.Southern* All three Southern Columbia wrestlers -- Todd Lane (120), Kent Lane (138) and Blake Marks (152) -- prevailed and will advance to tomorrow morning's quarterfinal round.Other schoolsFive local wrestlers dropped into the consolation bracket after losses in the preliminaries.
* Central Columbia's Lewis Williams (126) was beaten by Schuylkill Valley's Josh Giorgio, 3-0.
* Bloomsburg middleweights Cody Klinger (138) and Sam Miller (145) both lost by a score of 5-1.
