Local wrestlers compete in Hershey

Friday's earlier actionWith all three wrestlers still in the championship bracket, Southern Columbia has moved ahead of Benton in the team standings following the quarterfinals and second-round consolations.
Southern is in sixth place with 23.5 points, and Benton is seventh with 22 points. Benton has one wrestler remaining in the championship bracket, and two more wrestlers in the consolation bracket.
Bethlehem Catholic is in the lead with 66.5 points, Brookville is second with 36.5 points, and Boiling Springs is third with 35 points. Burrell is in fourth place (26 points) and Bermudian Springs is in fifth (24 points). Individual resultsIn the second-round consolations, where the winner of each match is guaranteed to leave Hershey with hardware, Central Columbia junior Lewis Williams (126 pounds) rallied past Reynolds' Michael Bartolo, 4-3, and Benton's Jeric Kasunic (160) blanked Jefferson Morgan's Ryan Zalar, 8-0, during the PIAA Class AA wrestling championships.
Here's how other local wrestlers fared:
* Logan Womelsdorf (195) earned the first pin of all local wrestlers with a fall in 2:33 against Ellwood City's Brad Grinnen. Womelsdorf, a returning state qualifier, secured his first medal.
* Benton's Alan Diltz (106) dropped an 8-4 decision against Brockway's Ryan Carlson.
* Warrior Run's Zack LeBarron (120) lost 2-0 to Derry Area's George Phillippi.
* Bloomsburg's Cody Klinger (138) gave up a late reversal to fall 3-2 against Fort LeBoeuf's George McGuire.
* Benton's Dominic Vitale (152) lost 2-1 against Fort LeBoeuf's Brad Malinowski.
Diltz, LeBarron, Klinger and Vitale all went 1-2 and were eliminated from the tournament.
Tonight's semifinal round and third round consolations begin at 6:30 p.m. Fourth round consolations are scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. In earlier action FridayTodd Lane (120 pounds), his cousin Kent Lane (138), and Blake Marks (152) all advanced to tonight's semifinal round with victories during Friday morning's quarterfinals during the PIAA Class AA wrestling championships at the Giant Center.
* Todd Lane blanked Redbank Valley's Willis Gruver.
* Kent Lane outlasted Fort LeBoeuf's George McGuire.
* Marks, the son of Tigers' head coach Jerry Marks, rallied for an 8-2 win over Brookville's Brodie Zacherl.
* Benton freshman Mike Stuart (120) was the only Tiger to win his quarterfinal match in dramatic fashion, 11-10, over Fort LeBoeuf's Jarrette Carter.
* Benton's Alan Diltz (106) dropped into the consolation bracket following a 9-0 loss to Bishop McDevitt's John Pipa.
* Jeric Kasunic (160) tied up his bout late in the third period before eventually dropping a 3-1 overtime decision to Coudersport's Kyle Bova.
* At 195, Benton's Womelsdorf couldn't generate offense during a 1-0 loss to Corry's Ryan Morris.
Diltz, Kasunic and Womelsdorf join teammate Dominic Vitale (152), Warrior Run's Zack LeBarron (120), Central Columbia's Lewis Williams (126) and Bloomsburg's Cody Klinger (138) in the second round of consolations. Consolations are set to begin at approximately 10:45 a.m.
