Mount Carmel - 66 Southern Columbia - 43SHAMOKIN - From the District 4 Class AA girls basketball final at Shamokin High School - In a clash between local rivals, Southern Columbia kept it close before No. 1 seeded Mount Carmel ran away with a 66-43 victory to claim the district title. Tigers fans shouldn't dwell on this loss, as both Southern Columbia and the Red Tornadoes compete in the PIAA Class AA tournament, beginning next week.Athens - 38 Danville - 36MANSFIELD - From the District 4 Class AAA girls basketball final at Mansfield University -- After trailing by 16 points at halftime, Danville rallied but couldn't put the finishing touches on a district title in a 38-36 loss to Athens. The Ironmen will still play in the PIAA Class AAA tournament, beginning next week.Northeast Bradford - 52 Benton - 44MONTOURSVILLE - From the District 4 Class A girls basketball consolation final at Montoursville High School -- Benton tied the game a 40 with a few minutes left to play, but Northeast Bradford eliminated the Tigers from the PIAA Class A tournament discussion with a 52-44 victory. The Tigers had to win in order to advance to the state tournament.

Class AA Northeast Regional wrestling tournament at Williamsport Area High SchoolWILLIAMSPORT - Warrior Run's Zack LeBarron and Eric Hunt, along with Central Columbia's Eric McCracken and Southern Columbia's Jake Becker all won their consolation finals to advance to next weekend's PIAA Class AA wrestling championships in Hershey. That makes a total of 12 local wrestlers who will compete at the Giant Center. Earlier Saturday, eight local wrestlers punched their tickets to next weekend's PIAA Class AA wrestling tournament. Benton's Matt Welliver, Zain Retherford, Colt Cotten, Jeric Kasunic and Logan Womelsdorf, along with Southern Columbia's Kent Lane and Blake Marks and Central Columbia's Alex Shiber all secured their spots. Warrior Run's Zack LeBarron, Eric Hunt and Garrett Moser, along with Central Columbia's Eric McCracken and Southern Columbia's Jake Becker all have to win their consolation finals in order to advance to the Giant Center.Class AAA Northeast Regional wrestling tournament at Liberty High SchoolLIBERTY - Berwick's Kevin Laubach came about as close as you can get to securing a PIAA Class AAA berth before dropping a 2-1 ultimate tiebreaker against Crestwood's Matt Hammerstone in the consolation finals. Laubach needed to win in order to secure his first berth at states. From the Class AAA Northeast Regional at Liberty High School -- Berwick's Kevin Laubach must win his consolation final match in order to advance to next week's PIAA Class AAA wrestling tournament at the Giant Center.
