POINT TWP. – Searchers discovered the body of a Riverside woman in the Susquehanna River near Northumberland late Thursday, marking the end of a four-day search.

Joyce Kotzen, 76, of Avenue E, had been missing since Monday, when she left a note on a kitchen table saying she was going for a walk. Police said Thursday that a utility worker had spotted a woman he believed was Kotzen by the riverbank late Monday morning. That's the last anyone is known to have seen her.

A helicopter searching the river discovered Kotzen's body in the river near Splash Magic Campground on Thursday afternoon, police said. That was after nearly 100 volunteers spent the day scouring the Riverside area on foot and by boat. The spot she was discovered is about 8 miles downriver from Riverside.

Police have said they don't consider the woman's disappearance suspicious.

We'll have a complete story on the discovery and search in Friday's Press Enterprise.
