BRIAR CREEK TWP. – Police are looking for a man who allegedly stole $90 worth of gift cards that staff at the Giant here had bought for a bereaved employee.

They say workers had collected $90 on Oct. 28 and purchased gift cards to give to a produce employee whose loved one had died.

The cards were enclosed in a greeting card and set on the customer service desk at the store, waiting to be mailed out, state police said.

That’s when a man grabbed the greeting card, took it out to the parking lot and removed the gift cards, troopers say. He came back into the store and returned the greeting card, saying he had found it in the parking lot.

The store was able to cancel the gift cards before they were used, troopers say. But police are looking for the alleged thief. They ask anyone who recognizes the man in the surveillance photographs to call them at 570-387-4261.
