WINTER WEATHER UPDATES: Schools start announcing Monday closures

7 p.m. update

All area school districts have announced they will not be having in-person classes Monday. Benton, Berwick, Central Columbia, Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech all say they will have remote learning. Meanwhile, Bloomsburg, Danville, Millville, Northwest and Southern Columbia simply say they're closed, according to snow closing lists at wnep.com

Meanwhile, Montour County has also announced that its courthouse and administrative center will be closed Monday, according to Commissioner Trevor Finn. All non-essential employees plan to stay home. The jail, emergency management agency and maintenance will still be working. "The maintenance crew has done a great job today clearing the snow," Finn said. 

The county had declared a state of emergency Saturday in preparation for the storm. The county will reopen all of its offices on Tuesday. 

As of 7 p.m., snow totals through the region were still increasing. In Berwick, just over 12 inches had fallen. In Bloomsburg, 11 inches have fallen, while Danville has seen 10.5 inches.

2:45 p.m. update

The 9-1-1 center for Columbia and Montour counties says that there have been few emergencies on the road today, as most people are staying home as snow continues to fall. Meanwhile, school closures for tomorrow have begun to roll in. So far, Bloomsburg, Danville, Northwest and Southern Columbia Area school districts all have announced they will be closed Monday. Berwick has announced while school will be closed it will have a Flexible Instruction Day.

1 p.m. update

Through 1 p.m., about 8 inches of snow had fallen in Berwick and Danville, with about 6 inches in Bloomsburg, according to weather watcher reports.

10:30 a.m. update

BUCKHORN — A tractor-trailer jackknifed Sunday morning at Sheetz along Mall Boulevard at Wedgetown Road, according to Columbia County's emergency dispatch center.

No one was hurt in the 9:30 a.m. mishap. There were no other traffic incidents reported overnight and no road closures in the area as of 10:30 a.m. Speeds on Interstate 80 were reduced to 45 mph early this morning, and commercial vehicles, buses, motorcycles, RVs and passenger vheicles towing  trailers are banned from the road until restrictions are lifted, PennDOT said.

The winter storm continues today with heavier snowfall expected into evening. 

Current snowfall amounts ranged from 3 to 6 inches in the region.
