Flood damage leads to long-term detour

BEAVER TWP. — Motorists will have to take the long way around Route 339 here after the flood damaged a bridge.

But emergency vehicles should still be able to get through quickly, the township emergency management agency coordinator said.

The bridge is between Dog Town Road and Mountain Shadow Lane, said PennDOT officials.

The department is still assessing the damage and necessary repairs.

In the meantime, workers have set up an long-term detour using Scotch Valley Drive, Beaver Valley Road and Shadow Mountain Lane.

Tracy Miller, the emergency management coordinator and Beaver Township fire chief, said she had contacted surrounding emergency responders in Nuremberg and Sugarloaf and Main townships to let them know about the bridge being out.

They know to find alternate routes, and dispatchers know to send responders from the same side of the bridge as the emergency scene, she said.

“People who live here don’t have to worry,” Miller said.
