A tractor-trailer driver rolled his flatbed load of steel, closing down the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 near the 249 mile marker in Nescopeck Township on Monday afternoon. According to State Police, witnesses saw another tractor trailer cut the driver off, causing him to lose control. (Press Enterprise/Jimmy May)

TANK – A flatbed truck trying to avoid another tractor trailer who swerved into his path spilled his load of metal strips onto Interstate 80 near here Monday afternoon, shutting down the eastbound lanes of the highway.

By 6:30 p.m., one of the lanes had reopened.

While crews cleaned up the wreck, a traffic backlog of nearly five miles backed up. Eventually, police began directing traffic off I-80 at the Mifflinville exit, and detouring them to Route 93.

We have a photographer at the scene, and will bring you more information as we have it.
