BENTON TWP. — Police are looking for a man who allegedly broke into a rural home here Wednesday, then pointed a gun at its owner when the resident showed up to chase him off.

Mark Zika came home to 41 Blueberry Lane — located off Zaners Bridge Road, near the Luzerne County line — around 3 p.m. to find a man in his basement, police say.

The man ran from the house, but Zika, 45, confronted him outside, troopers say.

That’s when the burglar pointed a handgun at Zika. But Zika had a gun of his own and fired off several warning shots, which caused the burglar to flee, police say.

Now State Police in Bloomsburg are looking for a white male in his early 30s; 5 feet, 10 inches tall; and between 170 and 185 pounds. The burglar had ear length dark brown or black hair.

Police say he was last seen wearing blue jeans, a faded black sweatshirt, tan work boots and a black hat with an unknown white emblem.

Anyone with information on who the suspect may be is asked to call State Police at 570-387-4261.
