Standoff ensues with suicidal man on ledge of river bridge

South Centre Township Police Chief Bill Richendrfer tackles Wayne Shiffer as Shiffer tries to go into his home after a two-hour police standoff on the Mifflinville Bridge Monday morning. Shiffer, 47, was first spotted sitting on the ledge of the bridge around 4:17 a.m. He was suicidal, police say.
