Voice of the Bulldogs heads to nepafootball for Week 1

BERWICK — The broadcast team that's been calling Berwick Bulldogs football for years will be on the air on Friday night, but this time for a website, www.nepafootball.com.

Announcer Jim Doyle said he and color man Andy Ulicny will call the Dawgs' opening game against Hazleton, which begins at 7 p.m. for the Internet site.

"It would have killed me not to be there," said Doyle, who's covered every Berwick home opener since at least 1971, which was George Curry's first year with the Bulldogs.

He and Ulicny became announcers without a home after the Berwick Area School District cut ties with WHLM-AM earlier this month in response to the station’s advance coverage of Aug. 12’s deadly protest-turned-riot in Charlottesville, Va.

Doyle said just before that happened he had reached out to Chris Kucharski of nepafootball, who agreed to let Doyle and Ulicny to air their call through his site, even if it's not for a whole season.

Berwick Superintendent Wayne Brookhart has said he is working on setting up an audio broadcasting arrangment.
