Skeleton near Pa. mall may be a foul play victim

YORK, Pa. (AP) -- The York coroner says human remains found last week near a shopping mall are those of a white man in his 30s or 40s and were likely at the location for three to 10 years. The York Dispatch reported (http://bit.ly/1aO36xc ) that Coroner Barry Bloss said Monday the human skeleton may have been at the site near West Manchester Mall for even more than a decade. Bloss isn't sure what caused the death. Police tell the newspaper some of the evidence recovered from the scene makes them consider the death to be suspicious.

School superintendent charged in student rape case inquiry

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (AP) -- An Ohio school superintendent, two coaches and a principal were charged by a grand jury that investigated whether other laws were broken in the rape of a drunken 16-year-old girl by two football players, the state's attorney general said Monday. The special grand jury convened in Steubenville had investigated whether adults like coaches or school administrators knew of the rape allegation but failed to report it as required by state law.

WilIiamsport, Pa. boom city, keeps optimism as gas drilling slows

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) -- The Marcellus Shale industry, which arrived in this northern Pennsylvania city five years ago and turned Williamsport into the seventh-fastest-growing area in the nation, appears to have lost some momentum. Economic activity in this city affectionately known as "Billtown" has subsided noticeably in the last year as the pace of drilling natural gas wells slowed in response to low gas prices.

1 dead in pileup that shut down I-81

GREENCASTLE, Pa. (AP) -- A 77-year-old woman is dead after a multi-vehicle accident that shut down Interstate 81 in both directions amid snowy conditions in south-central Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania State Police said Sunday that Beverly Grantier of Wellsville, N.Y., died in the crash at about 10 a.m. Police say a tractor trailer jack-knifed, blocking both northbound lanes and causing vehicles to crash. A total of nine vehicles crashed along the stretch. Grantier was riding in a minivan. Police say another passenger in the minivan, 79-year-old Gordon Grantier, was critically injured.

Police investigate 'knockout' game attack

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Philadelphia police believe a man assaulted outside a pizzeria is the victim of the so-called "knockout" game. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that a 15-year-old was arrested Thursday in the Nov. 11 attack in the city's Fox Chase section. Authorities say a 29-year-old man was kicked and punched by three or four people after agreeing to give someone a cigarette. Officer Tanya Little says police are looking closely at random attacks to see if they are linked to the game.

Willie Nelson's band bus crashes; 3 hurt

SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas (AP) -- Singer Willie Nelson has suspended performances until December after three of his band members were hurt when their bus plowed into a bridge pillar in East Texas during rainy conditions. The Texas Department of Public Safety says Nelson was not aboard in the weather-related accident around 3:30 a.m. CST Saturday on Interstate 30 near Sulphur Springs, 75 miles northeast of Dallas. Nelson spokeswoman Elaine Schock says Paul English broke his ankle, his brother Billy English suffered a bruise hip and Tom Harkin has a cracked or bruised rib.
