State lawmakers writing bill to legalize prescription pot

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) -- Two state senators, one a Republican and the other a Democrat, are planning to introduce a bill to legalize marijuana for medicinal use in Pennsylvania. Sens. Daylin Leach and Mike Folmer were preparing to give details of the upcoming bill Monday. The National Conference on State Legislatures says 20 states have some sort of public medical marijuana program, including two, Colorado and Washington, that allow it for personal consumption.

Montana baby born on 11-12-13 at 14:15

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) -- Nicollette Brynn Anders was born just in time. Little Nicollette came into the world at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday at Community Medical Center in Missoula, Mont., meaning she was born on 11-12-13 at 14:15 in military time. Proud dad Mark Anders tells the Missoulian (http://bit.ly/1bAaZpO) that's just when she showed up. The doctors induced labor Tuesday morning, and mom Amanda Anders says they were aware of the potential 11-12-13 birthdate, but didn't realize they might possibly have the 14:15 until about 10 minutes before Nicollette was born.

Police seek car possibly involved in pedestrian accident

BLOOMSBURG -- Police believe the dark car pictured in the security camera footage shown here was involved in a pedestrian hit-and-run earlier this month near Town Hall. A vehicle struck Steven Williams as he crossed East Street from Steph's Subs to Husky Korners around 2 p.m. Nov. 1, police have said. Workers at Bower Security combed through security camera footage in the area. Eric Bower said this car appears to have struck Williams, and then fled the scene turning on East Third Street. That's where a surveillance camera on Arcus Brothers captured these images.

Pa. gay marriage suit takes big step toward trial

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) -- A federal court challenge to Pennsylvania's 17-year-old law banning the recognition of same-sex marriages took an important step toward a trial Friday when a judge rejected two different attempts to block the lawsuit. U.S. District Judge John E. Jones III denied the motions to dismiss the lawsuit by Pennsylvania's secretaries of the departments of Health and Revenue and Bucks County's register of wills.

Cops: Pa. man stole backhoe, drove miles to Philly

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- A Pennsylvania man has been jailed on charges he stole a $125,000 backhoe from a suburban construction site then drove it about 30 miles to a scrapyard in Philadelphia where he intended to sell it. Police estimate it would have taken 33-year-old William Michael Pusey about 21/2 hours to make the trip to Philadelphia from Shainline Excavating of Phoenixville, where the backhoe was stolen Sunday.

Secret Service facing another sex scandal

WASHINGTON (AP) -- More than 18 months after a prostitution scandal in South America rocked the Secret Service, the agency in charge of protecting the president is investigating another case of suspected sexual misconduct in its ranks. This time, two supervisory agents assigned to President Barack Obama's protective detail have been investigated for misconduct involving sexually suggestive emails sent to a female subordinate. The alleged misconduct does not appear to involve a breach of Obama's security.
