Bomb suspects' mother was in terror database

BOSTON (AP) -- The mother of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects had been added to a federal terrorism database about 18 months before the attack, government officials said Thursday. Two government officials said the CIA had Zubeidat Tsarnaeva's name added along with that of her son Tamerlan Tsarnaev after Russia contacted the agency in 2011 with concerns that the two were religious militants about to travel to Russia. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the case.

Siren test in Bloom at 3 p.m.

BLOOMSBURG - The town will test its emergency sirens at 3 p.m. This is just a test, and it will last approximately 60 seconds, said Chief Leo Sokoloski. The town's sirens are located at Eight and Catherine streets, on the Bloomsburg Fairground near West Pine Avenue and Leonard Street, and at the Bloomsburg School District maintenance building just off of West 11th Street. That last siren was just recently put in service, police say. Kawneer paid for it, Sokoloski said.

NYC cops: Boston suspects planned to bomb Times Square

NEW YORK (AP) -- New York City officials say the Boston Marathon bombing suspects intended to blow up their remaining explosives in Times Square. Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly spoke at a briefing Thursday. Kelly says the two suspects had a pressure-cooker bomb and five pipe bombs they wanted to set off. They said Dzhokhar Tsarnaev told Boston investigators from his hospital bed that he and his brother had discussed going to New York to detonate their remaining explosives. They said they decided it spontaneously.
