Benton native gunned down in church

From staff and wire reports COUDERSPORT -- A Benton native and beloved school teacher was gunned down in front of a church congregation by her ex-husband Sunday as she sat playing the organ during a morning service. As Darlene Sitler, 53, lay wounded -- breathing and talking but unable to move -- elementary music teacher and symphony orchestra clarinet player Gregory Eldred fled with a .40-caliber handgun, arrest papers say.

What we're working on for Dec. 4

Here's a look at the stories we're working on for Tuesday's edition: * A Benton native is gunned down in a Coudersport church by her ex-husband, who is charged with her murder. * The mother of a Berwick man in jail on meth charges says he now recognizes he has a problem and he wants treatment to get better. * A Washingtonville-area woman who killed a neighbor's dog admits to cruelty charges against her but claims "self defense." She says she shot the animal only to protect her rabbits.
