Sandusky's son takes part in film on Penn St. case

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- The son of former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky participated in a documentary about his father's sexual-abuse case and hopes to become an advocate for child victims. Matt Sandusky told the Centre Daily Times (http://goo.gl/YGc0dH) that he took part in "Happy Valley" because he has become strong enough to tell his story and wants to speak out to help other survivors. The 100-minute film, debuting this week at the Sundance Film Festival, explores whether it was an open secret that Sandusky was molesting boys.

Police: Mom charged in kids' death feared devil

GERMANTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A Maryland woman charged with killing two of her children has told investigators that she thought an exorcism was necessary to remove the presence of the devil and evil spirits, a police captain said Sunday. Zakieya Latrice Avery, 28, of Germantown, is charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing deaths of the children, ages 1 and 2. Montgomery County police responded to Avery's home Friday morning following a neighbor's 911 call. Police said they found the two children dead and two other siblings, ages 5 and 8, injured with stabbing wounds.

NJ's pigskin-picking camel dies before Super Bowl

LACEY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) -- New Jersey's pigskin-prognosticating camel has died just weeks before the state is set to host its first Super Bowl. Princess was a fixture at the Popcorn Park Zoo in Lacey Township for 10 years and gained fame for picking winners. Zoo manager John Bergmann tells the Asbury Park Press (http://on.app.com/1av4tRs ) the 26-year-old Bactrian camel was euthanized after arthritis made it impossible for her to stand.

2 students shot in Philly school gym; boy cleared

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- A boy and a girl hanging out with a group of fellow students in a high school gym were shot and wounded Friday afternoon, police said. One boy originally thought to have been involved in the shooting was captured near his home but was questioned and cleared Friday night, police said. A second boy turned himself in with his family, and a third was being sought. The shooting happened at the Delaware Valley Charter High School in north Philadelphia around 3 p.m., authorities said.

Judge spikes photo ID requirement for Pa. voters

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) -- A nearly 2-year-old requirement that almost all of Pennsylvania's 8.2 million voters must show photo identification before casting a ballot was struck down Friday by a state judge, setting the stage for a courtroom showdown before the state's highest court. Commonwealth Court Judge Bernard L. McGinley, a Democrat, said the law would unreasonably burden the fundamental right to vote, and the state had been unable to convincingly explain why it was necessary.

Police: Pa. man propositioned women with cheese

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Philadelphia police have arrested a man they believe used Swiss cheese to sexually proposition unsuspecting women. The suspect, identified by authorities as 41-year-old Christopher Pagano, was arrested at his Norristown home Thursday. Investigators suspect Pagano is the man who reportedly drove up to women on several occasions and offered them money to put cheese on his genitals and perform a lewd act.
