FDA warns of dangerous erections from ADHD drugs

The Food and Drug Administration is warning that a stimulant used in treatments for the childhood condition attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder can trigger painful, long-lasting erections in rare cases. The federal agency said Tuesday it is updating drug labels to include information about priapism, a condition that can permanently damage a patient's penis. The stimulant, methylphenidate, is found in treatments including Ritalin, Concerta and Daytrana.

Man charged in burglary swallows 2 necklaces

LARGO, Fla. (AP) -- A man faces burglary and tampering charges after an X-ray machine revealed a dark mass near his stomach while he was being booked into jail. Pinellas County Sheriff's officials say the mass turned out to be two necklaces stolen during a Dec. 10 burglary in Safety Harbor. Twenty-one-year-old Joseph Ramos was arrested Dec. 11 when he was stopped for driving a vehicle that was stolen during the burglary. Various items from the home were inside the vehicle.

Police: Harrisburg boy, 10, shot in the face

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) -- Authorities say a 10-year-old boy was shot in the face after seven shots were fired at his house while he was sitting on the couch watching TV. Harrisburg police Chief Thomas Carter tells the Patriot-News of Harrisburg that the boy was rushed to the Hershey Medical Center Monday night to be treated and that his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Carter says he believes the house was targeted and the shooting wasn't random. Police say five shots hit the house and that four other children were inside.

No evidence that antibacterial soap prevents germs' spread, FDA says

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The federal government said Monday it has no evidence that antibacterial chemicals used in liquid soaps and washes help prevent the spread of germs, and it is reviewing research suggesting they may pose health risks. Regulators at the Food and Drug Administration said they are revisiting the safety of chemicals such as triclosan in light of recent studies suggesting the substances can interfere with hormone levels and spur the growth of drug-resistant bacteria.

'Tips For Jesus' - up to $10,000 - continue at eateries across U.S.

NEW YORK (AP) -- The $111.05 New York restaurant receipt includes a $1,000 tip and the words "god bless!" scrawled across it. The handle @tipsforjesus is stamped next to an illegible signature. In recent weeks, similar tabs have popped up in restaurants from coast to coast and even in Mexico, with tips of as much as $10,000 -- all charged to American Express. On Sunday just after midnight, the mysterious man surfaced again -- this time in Fairfield, Conn. He left a $5,000 gratuity on a $112 bill at the Seagrape, an eatery where college kids drop by for cheap beers by the beach.

Groom is struck and killed while helping motorist in snow

CHICAGO (AP) -- A man married less than seven hours was killed along with a stranded motorist he stopped to help in the snow when they were struck by several vehicles, authorities say. The man was on the way back from his wedding reception to a hotel when the accident happened. William "Riley" Knight, 49, of Crown Point, was driving with his wife, Nikki, about 11:45 p.m. Saturday when they saw a woman who had slid off the road in the snow near Crown Point. "He said, 'We've got to stop, it's late and they need help,'" Nikki Knight told the Chicago Sun-Times on Sunday.
